Throughout these updates we will go over the previous month’s dividend income, as well as our rolling 12 month projected dividend income and our progress towards our goal of having $50,000 in annual passive income. For reference, I received my first ever dividend payment in December 2017, and I immediately realized that they needed to be a prominent part of our any investment strategy.

Ok- so I don’t know where this came from, but July ended up being an absolutely monster month for us in dividends.
We always expect March, June, September, December to be big months as do most Canadians but we expected to see a steep decline from last years July number year-over-year due to the fact that we no longer hold any of the ETF’s that we owned last year which paid out in July.
We couldn’t have been more wrong! as this July actually set a new high score for us in dividends received!
Dividends Received: $1,104.02
For the second consecutive month we narrowly set a new all time high, last time it was by $5 and this time by $6 but still, records are records and being that this one was unexpected it makes it all the more enjoyable.
This month our top 3 payers of BNS, BCE and CM accounted for ~35% of the months total return.
Dividends Received YoY: $6,140.41
This is perhaps my favourite way to look at our investments, just seeing that snowball compound over and over again year after year is really the source of our motivation to continue to invest.
It was difficult to get my wife started on this journey originally, and understandably so – it’s not always easy to get excited about a dividend return of $1 or $2 but now that she’s seeing more and more $30, $50 and even $75 returns she’s right into it.
If you look in the far right column you’ll also notice that we were able to grow our dividends by 39% from July 2020 which is another big win.
Now, here’s how our next 12 months project:
Dividend Projections: $12,183.12
The current stats on our dividend portfolio are:
Portfolio Value: $ 294,527.13 (+$16k)
Dividend Value: $ 12,183.12 (+$700)
Portfolio Yield: 4.14 %
